We recently received news that the August 2004 Stud Book is to be the last one in circulation. Also the letter stated that AKC was planning to discontinue the ability to obtain pedigrees online from the AKC Web site and that an alternative data source will be offered to parent clubs only.
If the AKC Stud Books are no longer made available it will become increasingly difficult to obtain pedigrees from sources other than AKC. In order to prevent future problems in the Pet Industry all Dog Owners and Breeders should maintain at least 3 or 4 generations of pedigree information for all Dogs and provide pedigrees with all puppies at the time of sale.
This is just another one of the many reasons that AKC is quickly loosing popularity with the Pet Industry.
Some of the other Registries are equally or even more concerned about keeping pure, top quality breed standards and promoting Pet Ownership.
